This fine Nebaj huipil blows my mind! Such tremendous design and creativity. Fine dense almost psychedelic embroidery on a white rayon base. This huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two purple base panels made of a material call "aleman" in Guatemala. The panels are decorated with supplementary brocade featuring animal, bird and geometric motifs typical of Nebaj weavings. The complex intermingling of these motifs gives the overall design an abstract quality. The traditional collar design symbolizing the four cardinal directions is hand embroidered. This classic example is in very good condition
22 inches long and 25 inches wide
These are great year round. In the winter I wear them over a light sweater and they are super cozy.
