This is a gorgeous handwoven huipil from the Costa Chica of Oaxaca. The huipil is woven of soft hand spun cotton. The brown color is the natural color of the native coyuchi cotton from the region. The beautiful purple color is made from a local snails. It is a labor intensive process to make this dye and it is rarely used anymore. Huipiles from this region are difficult to come by and this is a great example. The thread of the brocade is silk.
This was purchased from the artisan at asking price.
This one has these measurements:
Chest 28" across
Length 35"
