This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide warp-striped cotton panels that are joined by floral embroidered seams. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade that features plumed serpent and zoomorphic motifs. The head opening is trimmed with a velvet. The base panels have the purple, red, yellow and brown stripes typical of San Juan Sacatepequez huipiles.
I love huipiles from this region and I particularly love this one. It has a great feel and a wonderful patina. It was mine!
Width is 38x Length 19 inches
